Reissues have been released by both Hasbro in 2008 for the line’s 25th Anniversary and The Bridge Direct/Basic Fun! under license beginning in 2017 for the 35th anniversary. These ponies are most often called "retro" or "repro" ponies, as they are G1 ponies not released during the G1 period of 1982-1995. Basic Fun! has given its pony line the official name My Little Pony Classic.

Hasbro used molds made from original G1 ponies sourced from its employees to create the 2008 25th Anniversary ponies, while The Bridge Direct/Basic Fun! has purchased ponies on eBay and is thought to use computer-based 3D scanning/modeling to create its pony molds.

2007-2008: 25th Anniversary

First 100 Package Seal

Hasbro released the first G1 repro ponies for the line’s 25th Anniversary beginning in 2007. They were packaged in sets of three, and only two G1 pony sets were reproduced. The Collector Ponies sets had a special online midnight release of the first 100 sets, designated with a special seal. The Rainbow Ponies proved harder to find, seemingly more limited in release.

These ponies’ molds were made using original G1 ponies sourced from Hasbro employees, as Hasbro has long maintained that it lost the original G1 molds. This method resulted in slight differences between original G1 ponies and these reproductions, including smaller eyes and overall size. Their material is harder than standard G1 ponies, and their hair is brighter but lesser quality.

Toy Fair NY 2008 Press Kit

This press kit is a limited release that was distributed to sales representatives at the 2008 NY Toy Fair. The package is a two-tier birthday cake design, in which the top “cake layer” pulls up from the bottom layer using a paperboard tab styled as a 25th birthday candle to reveal a Core 7 Pinkie Pie and a repro Cotton Candy. It also includes a CD. The silver 25th anniversary pin was also distributed at the event.

2017-2018: 35th Anniversary

35th Anniversary Seal

In 2017, a Florida-based toy company called The Bridge Direct (now Basic Fun!) received a license from Hasbro to produce G1 repro ponies. Its original reported plan was to reproduce all standard North American G1 ponies. However, the company filed for bankruptcy in June, 2024. This, in addition to seemingly lackluster sales and potential imposed tariffs, leaves the line’s future uncertain.

These ponies have concave feet with notably present 2017 or later production year stamp, as well as The Bridge Direct or Basic Fun! manufacturer stamp. Tail ribbons are sewn into the bases of their tails, already tied into bows, rather than included separately in the package for the owner to tie into the ponies’ hair.

35th Anniversary Original 1983 Collection

The first reissue set is the Collector Ponies, which retailed for approximately $9.99 US each. Each pony includes a ribbon, standard comb, and poster.

There are two box styles – one with a window on the left edge and one without. Ponies were also packaged in Collector Sets of three – Butterscotch, Cotton Candy, and Bluebelle & Snuzzle, Minty, and Blossom. Each three-pack includes a repro original comb for each pony.

35th Anniversary Rainbow Collection: Series 1

Rainbow-Ponies-35th-Anniversary-Basic-Fun-5-Pack-2.jpg

The next set released is the Year 2 Rainbow Ponies in 2018, also retail-priced at approximately $9.99 USD each. Each pony has a sewn-in bow at the base of her tail and includes a repro shooting star brush, repro original comb, and a round sticker.

There are two variations of each pony – scented and unscented (released in 2019), as well as a few packaging variations. The scented ponies are known to discolor very quickly where the fragrance patches are on their bodies. All six ponies in the set were sold individually in both variations. A Rainbow Pony Gift Set was also released. This set contains five scented ponies, excluding Sunlight, as well as one shooting star brush, and a round sticker that features retro art of the full set of six Rainbow ponies. In Australia and New Zealand, four of the six ponies (excluding Skydancer and Moonstone) were sold in a midnight blue box design at Cotton On.

Please note! These 6 photos of loose ponies are the first official stock photos from Basic Fun for this set. Nevertheless, the ponies in these first pictures are not reproduction ponies. They are original ponies from the 1980s instead. In other words, these photos are misleading and they should not be used for identification of reproduction ponies.

Also in 2019, the Year 3 Rainbow Ponies set was released. Each pony retailed for approximately $9.99 USD and includes a sewn-in tail ribbon, repro original comb, and round sticker.

Stranger Things x My Little Pony

In the summer of 2019, Basic Fun! collaborated with Netflix’s popular 1980s-period horror series Stranger Things and released a new G1 pony – Upside-Down Applejack. She is upside down in the package and has a monochromatic blue hue upside down symbol. She was initially exclusive to US Target stores and retailed for $9.99 USD.

San Diego Comic Con: 2019

Also in Summer 2019, Basic Fun! sold a new version of Majesty exclusively at San Diego Comic Con. She features a pearly finish and Twice As Fancy-style symbols with unpainted eyes, glittery horn, super-long, two-toned blue hair with iridescent tinsel, and shimmery blue neck ribbon and sewn-in tail bow. She was a limited run of 1,000 pieces and retailed for $19.99. She sold out completely at the event. Later in 2020, she appeared sold loose on Taobao and Aliexpress. It is unknown how many were available for sale on those platforms.

2020

My Little Pony Third Generation

Basic Fun! dabbled in G3 reproduction in 2020 with new versions of Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash. Notably, each pony’s package has a ”G3” emblem in the top left corner, the common term used throughout the collecting community when determining pony generations. Each pony comes with a repro bow brush. These ponies are brighter than their original G3 counterparts and can turn their heads, a feature that did not occur in G3 until 2006.

Unicorn & Pegasus Collection: Series 2

2020 also brought four of the eight Year 3 unicorns and pegasus ponies, retailing for $9.99 USD. Missing from the set are the curly-haired versions of Firefly and Medley, as well as Powder and Skyflier. Notably, the latter two unicorns would require a new mold, while the mold for Gusty and Sparkler already existed from the Series 2 Rainbow Ponies. Each pony includes a sewn-in tail ribbon, crescent moon comb, and round sticker.

Both Heart Throb and Sparkler have two different variations. Heart Throb has a light pink and dark pink version, and Sparkler has a lavender-tailed and mixed red- and lavender-tailed version.

Classic: Earth Ponies: Series 2

Four of the six Year 3 Earth Ponies were released in 2020, as well. Absent from the set are the curly-haired versions of Applejack and Bow-Tie. Each pony includes a sewn-in bow and a butterfly brush and retailed for $9.99 USD.

Twinkle-Eyed Collection

Backcard

August 2021 brought the release of four of the nine Year 4 Twinkle-Eyed Ponies. Each retailed for $9.99 USD and includes a sewn-in tail bow, repro shooting star comb, and round sticker.

There are two variants of Gingerbread – large symbols and small symbols.

Despite Galaxy being in the same pose as Fizzy, she was left out of this set. It is an interesting choice that Sky Rocket was produced instead, though Galaxy is arguably more popular among both collectors and casual fans due to her consistent appearance in the G1 TV series.

40th Anniversary: 2022-2023

The Collector Ponies were repackaged in new Show Stable-style boxes for the line’s 40th anniversary in 2022-2023. Each pony includes a sewn-in tail bow and special “40 Years” shooting star brush. They are no different than their 2017 counterparts, though early prototype design images depicted them with new symbols that incorporated the “40 Years” emblem.

Original 1983 Collection: Three-Pack

In 2023, Basic Fun! also released a special 40th anniversary three-pack that contains pearly versions of Blossom and Cotton Candy, as well as a pearly mini Glory. Each pony has a sewn-in tail bow, and the set includes one white 40 Years shooting star brush. It was sold at Target in the US and retailed for $19.99 USD.

Celestial Ponies

Fancy Swirl Concept Art

Also in 2023, a successful Facebook group letter campaign to Basic Fun! finally brought the Fancy Swirl Ponies to life. These ponies are based on concept art of the unproduced G1 set and are now known as Celestial Ponies with names Aurora, Nova, Polaris, and Milky Way. These ponies are unique because they are new G1 ponies, but they were not produced in the G1 era.

Each pony includes a sewn-in tail bow and “40 Years” shooting star brush and retails for $14.99 USD. Both Nova and Polaris have two variations. Nova is found with either white or pink swirls, and Polaris is found with either light or dark swirls.

Unreleased

Flutter Ponies

Flutter Ponies were presented at the 2019 NY Toy Fair, but they are not planned for production because no retailers chose to carry them.

Pretty Parlor with Lemon Drop

Also at 2019 Toy Fair, a recolored Pretty Parlor with Lemon Drop and Brandy was displayed. It also was not picked up by any retailers. A limited amount of repro Lemon Drop ponies were made and sold on Taobao and Ali Express, but the number is unknown.

Totally Rad Collection

The Totally Rad Collection debuted at London and NY Toy Fairs in 2025. It features previously released ponies Firefly, Moonstone, Skydancer, and Starshine with brighter colors and ‘80s-style legwarmers and scrunchies. The latter three are in different poses. Whether retailers have chosen to carry them is currently unknown.

Stranger Things 5 x My Little Pony

Also shown at the 2025 London Toy Fair was a new ‘’Stranger Things’’ collaborative pony, Rockin’ Robin. She is named after the DJ on the show’s radio station. Rockin’ Robin was shown at the event in the prancing earth pony pose, but she has been seen in a separate graphic as a pegasus in the Heart Throb pose. Release details are unknown at this time.
