According to Granny Smith, Filthy Rich's grandfather was the first person to buy and resell the jam, resulting in the family's wealth, and also contributing to the foundation of Ponyville. Filthy Rich is the father of Diamond Tiara, and despite his daughter's bullying way, Filthy Rich is very amiable to and patient with others.
