Year Four Baby Ponies with Beddy Bye Eyes

The Baby Ponies with Beddy Bye Eyes, or BBE ponies, are likely the most polarizing set of the My Little Pony brand’s 40+ year history. Some love them, and some hate them. There isn’t much room between. These babies debuted in 1985 with rereleased versions of the Baby Buggy and Lullabye Nursery.

Like the “sleepy-eyed” dolls popularized by Madame Alexander in the 1930s, the ponies’ eyes close when laid on their sides and open when stood up.

The ponies’ eyes are prone to rust, missing eyelashes, and chipped eyelids, and their manes are often unruly and difficult to tame. These factors contribute to some collectors’ distaste for them, but the general “creepy” appearance of the eyes is the most common complaint.
