US My Little Pony Pamphlet © 1984

Many pony sets were simply labeled as "My Little Pony" at the time of sale. Early '80s earth ponies are some of the most popular examples. It wasn't until the online collecting community developed that they were given different titles to distinguish them.


Year Two (1983-1984)

Earth Ponies

Bubbles' Backcard

Two new poses were introduced with this set – the Bow-Tie or "Shy" pose and the Bubbles or "Sitting" pose. The Earth Ponies are featured in a commercial with the Unicorn and Pegasus ponies – seen here – in which the new poses are called the "Turning" and "Sitting" poses.


Lyrics are as follows, sung to the familiar tune:


My Little Pony, unicorn,

A magical pony with beautiful hair.

My Little Pony, pegasus,

Imagine my pony flying through the air.

The new little ponies, in pretty poses,

Four of the Year Two Earth Ponies, excluding Blossom and Seashell, are featured in the Rescue at Midnight Castle/Firefly's Adventure pilot episode. Applejack and Bow-Tie are main characters, while Bubbles has a non-speaking role. Cotton Candy has a few lines but spends most of her screentime transformed into a monster after being abducted by Scorpan in the first five minutes.


Each pony includes a flower brush, ribbon, and round puffy sticker, as well as an order form for the first mail order pony, Ember.
