Sunset Shimmer is a G4 Unicorn Pony. She serves as the primary antagonist of the theatrical movie, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls.

Sunset Shimmer was once a student of Princess Celestia, who began studying just before Twilight Sparkle did. However, Sunset Shimmer left when she did not get what she wanted quickly. She left through a magical portal into another world, where she took on human form. Later on, she returned to Equestria and stole Twilight's crown, which served as the Element of Magic. Sunset Shimmer would attempt to use the crown's magic as part of a goal to take over Equestria, but was unable to control it and transformed into a demonic entity. Twilight pursued Sunset and was able to retake the crown.
