She left through a magical portal into another world, where she took on human form. Later on, she returned to Equestria and stole Twilight's crown, which served as the Element of Magic. Sunset Shimmer would attempt to use the crown's magic as part of a goal to take over Equestria, but was unable to control it and transformed into a demonic entity.
