The So Soft Ponies, often abbreviated to "SS," were first introduced in Year Four. So Soft Ponies are flocked with a silky, nylon fiber that makes them feel soft to touch. They are the largest set of G1 ponies, and most of the characters are featured in both My Little Pony: The Movie (1986) and the My Little Pony TV series.

An artwork error on the ponies' backcards depicts Fifi as an Earth Pony, Hippity Hop as a Unicorn Pony, and Skippity Doo as a Pegasus Pony.

Cherries Jubilee, Gusty, Heart Throb, Lickety-Split, Posey, and Surprise are all reissued characters for this set.

All ponies in this set except Bouncy, Fifi, Hippity Hop, Scrumptious, Skippity Doo, and Twist are featured characters in My Little Pony: The Movie (1986) and the My Little Pony TV series.

Each pony includes a brush or comb, ribbon, grape-scented body sticker, and a special offer order form. The three Rearing Pose Earth Ponies also include a platform with two pegs that fit into their rear feet to keep them standing upright.

Sundance received the So Soft treatment in Year Four, and Best Wishes is part of the Party Gift Pack (a variety pack of ponies) in the same year. Satin 'n Lace was also transformed into a So Soft Pony.
