North American, (on this site) refers to toys that were available for retail purchase in the US and Canada, and generally not sold anywhere in Europe. Mexico had it's own ponies, and is not included under the term North American.
Many ponies sold in Canada had bilingual (French and English) packaging.
The French-Canadian translation of My Little Pony was "Ma Petite Pouliche". As opposed to the France-French "Mon Petit Poney"
