He is the main antagonist of Twilight's Kingdom: Part 1 and Twilight's Kingdom: Part 2, the season 4 finale of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
In the distant past, Tirek and his brother Scorpan invaded Equestria and tried to steal the ponies' magic. Scorpan befriended the ponies and helped defeat Tirek, how was sent to Tartarus for his crimes.

Discord was sent to stop him, but Tirek convinced him to aid him, which he did. Celestia, Luna, and Cadance decided to transfer their magic into Twilight Sparkle, gambling that Tirek was unaware of her or her importance.
